Name: Shoes that Grow – with children's feet

Aim: Provision of 500 pairs of Shoes that Grow to children in Uganda and Ethiopia

Cost: Each pair of Shoes that Grow cost $15, including distribution and fitting. The Shoe is made with the highest quality materials - compressed rubber, anti-bacterial synthetic, and high grade Velcro. No mechanical parts or clasps to break.

THE NEED DESCRIBED:

Millions of school children across Africa suffer from soil-transmitted diseases and parasites, which get into the body because they don’t have shoes.  They live in areas that do not have adequate sanitation to prevent the absorption of these parasites. Many have current infections in the toes and feet and parasitic infestations can only be successfully treated if recurrence is prevented. Shoes are critical in healing these children and helping them to remain healthy in the future.  This program aims to deliver 500 pairs of Shoes that Grow to schools and orphanages in Uganda and Ethiopia. The Shoe That Grows adjusts and expands as the child's feet grow – for example a Small size will last a child for 5 shoe sizes.  Local organizations will identify the children in immediate need and provide them with the Shoes.  Our partner for the Uganda project is Love without Boundaries, who have set up schools and orphanages for some of the 2m orphans in Uganda.  They will distribute the shoes to the children in their Believe in Me school.  Our partner in Ethiopia is BOK -  (Because of Kennedy) a non-profit organization that exists to care for orphans and empower the vulnerable in Ethiopia

THE CURRENT PROGRAM:

Providing shoes to every child in LWB's Believe in Me school program, as well as other children in immediate need, is a high priority project and is currently underway.  It is very professionally run and shown transparency and accountability in their approach.  BOK is a completely dedicated organization that meets the needs of its network of orphanages, when critical needs arise.  There are over 4M orphans in Ethiopia, and they will be eternally grateful for this intervention
