Senior Nutrition.png

Goal: $3,000

Name: Senior Nutrition - Feeding program for Grandparents who have to take in abandoned family members in Kitale, Kenya –

Aim: To provide weekly food support for 200 of the most needy grandparents and children in this area.

Cost: $25 per family per month Or $250 per family for a year Or any donation you wish to give

THE NEED DESCRIBED:

There are hundreds of children abandoned by parents and left to live with elderly and frail grandparents in the slum areas of Kitale, Kenya. At present, our partner organization, the Daughters of Charity, Kitale, is feeding some of these people but have very limited funds. This area has significant social problems because most people feel there is no hope for them. There is limited food, a very low level of education and literacy, very high unemployment, no income and extremely bad living conditions without water or sanitation. Many young parents sadly leave the area and abandon their children, leaving elderly grandparents to take in the children and care for them. With no ability to work, this is almost impossible. We would like to extend the current feeding program to care for these burdened grandparents and the abandoned children, while other programs deal with the source of the social problems that lead to the abandonment crisis

THE CURRENT PROGRAM:

This program is by the sisters, from a shed in a converted creamery in the heart of this community. We visited the program and can confirm it is extremely well run, with clear records kept of who received food, as well as their weight and any illnesses that require medication. The food is safely stored and well measured, in order to make it stretch as much as possible. We have a lot of pictures of this highly deserving program.

YOUR DONATION:

Will fund a senior nutrition in Kitale, Kenya, which will provides grandparents who have to take care of abandoned family members with a steady source of food and nutrition- thank you!
