Goal: $4,000
Name: Kids Stay Learning- A support to keep children in school and address the literacy problem for those who had to leave.
Aim: To provide 100 school kits to the refugee children To fund literacy training for a class of 20 children, no longer attending school.
THE NEED DESCRIBED:
There is no shortage of deserving school fee/costs support programs in east Africa, but the case of Sudanese refugees stands out. Violence and poverty keep ravaging South Sudan and refugees from neighboring Sudan can still not return. In February, famine was declared in South Sudan as 100,000 people face starvation. Support of the local population and Sudanese refugees is needed more than ever. Our partner, The Jesuit Relief Service (JRS) works in Maban in the north east of the country. They offer education to restore a sense of hope for children and their families, including literacy training to a society where 80% is estimated to be illiterate. 25 US dollars pays for a school kit that will allow a child to attend primary school for a year and 75 US dollars pays for a 12-week course in basic English literacy, a huge need among a population.
THE CURRENT PROGRAM:
The humanitarian crisis in South Sudan has been deteriorating and JRS, in association with its partner organizations, has been providing the best interventions possible in the circumstances. This is a very deserving project, as it seeks to break the cycle of hopelessness by proving education.
YOUR DONATION:
Will fund literacy training and education to Sudanese refugees, where illiteracy rates are extremely high- thank you!
