THE NEED DESCRIBED:

Sanya Station is a public school with a current enrollment of circa 560 students aged 6 to 14.  It is based in a very poor area of northern Tanzania and serves children from the Massai tribe, as well as children living locally. It is run by our partner organization Lalafofofo. The enrollment in this school has increased and now stands at 565.  This program guarantees at least some nutrition for the students and the program is an incentive for them to remain at school, since many of the students would not otherwise eat during the day. Consistent feeding is critical for the younger children, who typically start school from a disadvantaged position as regards their nutrition and brain development.

Our second partner is The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), whose project is based in Angola.   Since early April, more than 20,000 people have crossed the border from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Angola fleeing increasing violence in Kasai Province. Refugees are living in extremely poor conditions in over-crowded reception centers that struggle to accommodate daily arrivals. Children, and their parents are in desperate need of basic necessities such as water, food, shelter, and health care.   Our feeding project has a particular emphasis on unaccompanied and orphaned children.

THE CURRENT PROGRAM:

This school program is well run and very well monitored.  The food is delivered periodically and is kept in a secure and sanitary locked room so it is protected and preserved for those who will need it. The staff at the school are very grateful for this program and are proud of their progress academically, since the food issue has been addressed.  The JRS program is meeting the childrens food and health needs with as much as they have available but are in need of much support.

YOUR DONATION:

Will provide food, nutrition, increased health and a future for children, who otherwise would have very limited opportunities – thank you!
